What is vaginoplasty?
Vaginoplasty operations are one of the aesthetic operations performed on the internal genital area. The vagina, which has expanded over time, is narrowed surgically and returned to its previous form. It can be counted among the repair surgeries known as reconstructive. This enlargement, which occurs due to the weakening of the vaginal muscles, may be accompanied by conditions such as vaginal flatulence or urinary incontinence in the future. Vaginoplasty operations also prevent these problems.
Patients do not necessarily have to have given birth or be older to need vaginoplasty. Vaginal aging is not just about the biological age of the patient. The amount of deformation of the region and its susceptibility to deformation also affect this definition. Therefore, the patient does not need to be over middle age to require a vaginal renewal process.
How is Vaginoplasty Done?
The operation is a surgical intervention. That’s why operating room procedures are valid. The operation can be performed by numbing the body from the waist down (epidural anesthesia). However, general anesthesia is generally preferred for the psychological comfort of the patient. Depending on the state of anesthesia, the patient may need to come hungry or full.
If epidural anesthesia is used, the patient must enter the operation with a full stomach, and if general anesthesia is used, the patient must enter the operation hungry. During the operation, excess tissue is removed from the vagina. Loose muscle tissue, if any, is tightened by surgical intervention. No incisions are made in the abdominal area during the operation. The incisions made remain inside the vaginal area. For this reason, complaints such as scars are not common. The physician decides the rate of reduction according to the patient’s history and the amount of expansion. There is no change in the length of the vagina during the surgery. Excess tissue is removed from the vagina and the vagina is narrowed with horizontal stitches. This procedure is generally performed through the back wall of the vagina. Surgery time depends on the amount of reduction. However, it generally varies between 30 and 60 minutes. The stitches are dissolvable stitches. There is no procedure such as removing stitches afterwards.
Post-vaginoplasty surgery goes smoothly if necessary care is taken. After the vagina recovers, its form can be preserved by taking protective measures. Kegel exercises are one of these measures. Kegel exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor muscles will help keep the connective tissue strong. Likewise, adopting a healthy lifestyle and maintaining nutrition and sleep patterns will indirectly help preserve the vaginal form as it will reduce the aging process. However, there is no harm in performing vaginoplasty if needed again.
